Cape Town’s famous Neighbourgoods Market, located at the Biscuit Mill, is finally coming to Jozi! Noted as one of the country’s top food markets, you can expect a mix of specialty traders including fine-food purveyors, organic merchants, artisanal goods, gourmet products, local farmers, seasonal items, plants and herbs, fresh produce, boutique wine estates, micro-breweries and more.

- Sidewalk sculptures like the lacy silhouettes that are the Juta Street Trees and the massive 5.5 metre tall, 20 ton concrete Eland, created by well known local artist Clive van den Berg that welcomes you at the gateway to Braamfontein.

- The notorious Constitution Hill, where Jo’burg’s political history begins and where the Constitutional Court resides.

- Newtown (3km), which is the multicultural home to a number of famous sights and landmarks, including the Market Theatre; Mary Fitzgerald Square, which was one of the 2010 Fifa World Cup’s official fan parks; SAB (South African Breweries) - grab a tour and taste the countries most loved ales; MuseuMAfrica; the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre and the Dance Factory; plus a host of eclectic restaurants and bars.
Within the surrounding area:
- Soccer City (7km), where the 2010 Fifa World Cup was hosted.
- Ellis Park Stadium (3km), where famous sporting events and concerts take place - some of the 2010 World Cup soccer matches were played here.
- Gold Reef City (9km) for full-on entertainment, including a casino, a funfair, plus exciting theatre and live performances.
- The Apartheid Museum (9km), which is beautifully installed but hard-hitting as it explores South Africa’s most oppressive era.
- Fordsburg (5km), a vibrant and busy Indian district offering the most authentic Indian eateries in Jo’burg at affordable prices, plus you can shop ‘til you drop at the famous Oriental Plaza.
- The famous 50-storey Carlton Centre (5km), where you get to catch a lift to the top floor and experience Jo’burg in all it’s urban glory.
- The arty suburb Melville (4km), which offers a haven of bars, coffee spots, retail shops and restaurants. It’s where the student fraternity hangs out with Jozi’s food lovers and alternative crowd.
Out of the city limits:
- Vilikazi Street in Soweto (25km) provides a backdrop to South African politics: visit the Hector Pieterson Museum; photograph Arch Bishop Tutu’s home; pop into Mandela House, which is also a museum; and eat lunch at Nambitha’s restaurant.
- Discover Jozi glamour in Sandton Central (18km), where shopping malls offer major retail therapy and an abundance of restaurants and night spots. You can also catch some theatre there, too.
- Along with Paris Jo’burg is the largest man-made urban forest in the world and offers a number of gorgeous parks and botanical gardens perfect for walks and picnics, including the Johannesburg Botanical Garden (5km) and the Walter Sisulu Botanical Garden (20km), which is famously home to the magnificent Witpoortjie waterfall.
- Visit Maropeng (70km), the official visitors centre for the famous Cradle of Mankind. Get a fascinating glimpse at this Unesco-declared World Heritage Site, where the Sterkfontein Caves reside next to the site where the 2.15 million year old skull of the world-famous Mrs Ples was found.
